Mayor of Reading visits Zimbabwe's Bulawayo

Her Worship Dr. Alice Mpofu-Coles, the Mayor of Reading in the United Kingdom, paid a courtesy call to Senator David Coltart, Mayor of Bulawayo, and Town Clerk Mr. Christopher Dube, during her visit to Zimbabwe.

Dr. Mpofu-Coles expressed delight at being back in her home country after an extended period, noting that her election as the first Black female Mayor of Reading has become a symbol of hope for minority groups.

During the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of collaboration aimed at advancing mutual development. Key focus areas identified included research and business development, with both local authorities expressing willingness to explore formal partnerships.

The discussions concluded with a commitment to follow up through formal correspondence to outline specific areas of interest and cooperation.

In addition to her role as Mayor, Dr. Mpofu-Coles is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Reading. She highlighted that her academic position could strategically support partnerships between the two institutions, fostering collaboration in research and development initiatives.
