The Border Management Authority (BMA) has announced plans to construct a one-stop border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, a move aimed at reducing congestion and streamlining the movement of travelers and cargo.

BMA Commissioner Dr. Mike Masiapato said the new facility will allow both travelers and cargo trucks to be processed at a single point, eliminating the need for separate clearances in each country.

In addition, Dr. Masiapato revealed plans to build another bridge on the western side of the Limpopo River dedicated to cargo trucks, further improving the flow of trade between the two nations.

"The implementation of the one-stop border post is one of the key strategic interventions by the South African government. Negotiations are under way with successful bidders under the public-private partnership framework. We expect construction to gain traction in the last quarter of 2026," Dr. Masiapato said.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance efficiency at the busy Beitbridge border post, which handles thousands of travelers and commercial trucks daily, particularly during peak travel periods.
