A violent clash between two rival groups of illegal miners in Mazowe has left one man dead following a dispute over a sex worker.
The incident occurred at Nduku Business Centre, where the confrontation escalated into a deadly fight involving knives and logs.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the murder.
According to police, the violence stemmed from a disagreement between Gift Machingaife and Terrence Langton over a sex worker. During the initial altercation, Langton allegedly stabbed Machingaife in the shoulder. Machingaife survived the injury.
Police said Machingaife later mobilised a gang of illegal miners, led by Sam Kasinakuse, and launched a retaliatory attack on Langton's group.
The two gangs reportedly engaged in a violent fight, during which John Banda was stabbed in the rib cage. He sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Banda's body was taken to Concession Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
