A Gweru man has approached the High Court in Bulawayo seeking to end his 19-year marriage after DNA tests allegedly revealed that the eldest of his four children is not his biological son.

Aaron Makore filed divorce summons against his wife, Kumbirai Makore (nee Muchena), on September 30, accusing her of deceiving him for nearly two decades over the child's paternity, The Chronicle reported.

According to court documents, Makore claims his wife admitted that their eldest son, now aged 20, was conceived during an alleged extramarital affair with her sister's husband.

Represented by lawyer Joshua Nembaware of T Hara and Partners, Makore argues that the discovery has irretrievably damaged their marriage, leaving no prospect of reconciliation.

The couple married under customary law in 2006 before formalising their union through a civil marriage in November 2014. They have four children aged 20, 16, 12 and three.

Makore further alleges that his wife unlawfully altered the agreement of sale for their matrimonial home in Gweru without his consent. He also accuses her of infecting him with HIV, claiming he is now receiving antiretroviral treatment.

These allegations remain unproven before the court.

In his divorce application, Makore states that the couple has not enjoyed conjugal rights for the past 12 months following a complete breakdown of love and affection.

He is demanding 80 percent of the proceeds from the sale of their Gweru property, leaving his wife with 20 percent. The house is reportedly registered in the names of the couple and their children.

Makore is also seeking custody of the minor children, proposing that his wife be granted access on alternate weekends and during school holidays.

Additionally, he wants the court to order Mrs Makore to contribute US$30 per child every month towards their maintenance until they reach 18 years or become financially independent.

Mrs Makore has entered an appearance to defend the divorce proceedings but has yet to file her plea responding to the allegations.

The High Court is expected to determine the divorce and related disputes over custody, maintenance and property division.
