Zimbabwe's senior women's national team will be aiming to pull off a major upset when they face South Africa in the COSAFA Cup semi-final on Friday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Mighty Warriors head into the clash brimming with confidence after finishing unbeaten in Group B with seven points, the same tally as Zambia, who topped the group on goal difference.

Zimbabwe now face a formidable challenge against seven-time champions South Africa women's national football team, widely regarded as one of the strongest sides in the region.

Despite the tough assignment, head coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda says her team is focused and unfazed by history.

"As I have always said, we are taking each game as it comes.

"Football is played on the pitch and we are not reading much into history.

"We know South Africa is a strong side, but everyone is here to compete and win. We just want to give our best," said Sibanda.

Zimbabwe are making their first COSAFA Cup semi-final appearance in three years, having last reached this stage during the 2023 edition. Their disciplined displays in the group stages have raised hopes that they could go a step further this time around.

The winner of Friday's encounter will advance to the final on Sunday to face either Zambia or Namibia, setting up the possibility of another high-stakes regional showdown.
