FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended his congratulations to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi following the official launch of the ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, Zimbabwe's flagship national knockout football competition.

In his message, Infantino recognised the significance of the tournament as a landmark initiative with the potential to transform Zimbabwean football. "This competition will strengthen football development across Zimbabwe, from grassroots to elite levels, while creating opportunities for communities, young people, and the wider game," he said.

The Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, backed by a USD5 million per season sponsorship, was launched at the Celebration Centre in Borrowdale and officially inaugurated by President Mnangagwa. The tournament aims to elevate standards, improve club competitiveness, and increase visibility for teams across the nation.

ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi described the FIFA President's endorsement as a strong signal of international recognition for Zimbabwe's football ambitions. "FIFA's congratulations affirm that our vision for a competitive, inclusive, and professionally managed domestic competition is aligned with global standards," he said.

The tournament is designed to be truly national, ensuring no community or region is left behind. It also serves as a platform to discover talent, strengthen governance in clubs, and support the growth of women's football.

With international recognition from FIFA and national leadership backing, the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup is set to become a defining institution in Zimbabwean football, inspiring excellence and fostering unity across the country.
