LA 24‑year‑old man from Bindura has been jailed for cyberbullying his ex‑girlfriend after unlawfully accessing her social media accounts and posting an obscene audio message intended to humiliate her.

Kudakwashe Lordship Tengende was convicted by the Bindura Magistrates’ Court of cyberbullying and harassment.

The court heard that Tengende and the 29‑year‑old victim were previously in a relationship but separated on 2 February 2026 following a misunderstanding. After the breakup, Tengende took back a cellphone he had given her, without giving her the chance to log out of her Facebook and TikTok accounts.

On 4 February, Tengende logged into the victim’s accounts and posted an obscene audio message to platforms accessible to more than 3 500 followers. The victim began receiving numerous calls alerting her to the offensive post.

Although she deleted the audio, Tengende repeatedly reposted it until she removed it for the fourth time. She later reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.

Tengende pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment. Four months were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence, while the remaining eight months were suspended on condition he performs 280 hours of community service.

Authorities warned that social media must not be weaponised to harass, humiliate or degrade others, stressing that digital platforms are not lawless spaces and offenders will face the full consequences of the law.
