President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to commission the US$4,5 million Romesly Irrigation Scheme in Makoni District on Wednesday, a project aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the province.
Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka recently toured the 384-hectare scheme to assess preparedness. The project, rehabilitated by government and its partners, features 24 centre pivots and will benefit 336 farmers, including youths and women.
Accompanying him was Advocate Misheck Mugadza, who said the province is mobilising over 30 000 people to gather at Zambuko Primary School for the president's address.
"We are very happy that we will be hosting President Mnangagwa this week when he will be commissioning Romesly Irrigation Scheme. Romesly is a massive irrigation project put up by government to irrigate 384 hectares under 24 centre pivots with 336 beneficiaries including youths and women. We are expecting over 30 000 people to gather at Zambuko Primary School where they will be addressed by the President," Minister Mugadza said.
He added that preparations are well underway, with over 120 buses, lorries, and smaller vehicles arranged to transport attendees to the event. The commissioning of Romesly Irrigation Scheme is expected to mark a significant boost for local agriculture and rural livelihoods in Makoni District.
