The Karoi Regional Magistrates' Court has sentenced a 51‑year‑old Tengwe farmer to 35 years in prison after convicting him of repeatedly raping his 12‑year‑old daughter.

The court heard that between late 2024 and early 2025, the offender claimed the abuse was part of "culture" and spiritually necessary. The victim was assaulted, chased from home to sleep on a nearby hill, and beaten with a stick for resisting his advances.

He threatened to kill her if she reported the abuse.

The matter came to light when the victim's cousin, who was also being abused, reported the incidents to her teachers.

The offender was convicted on four counts of rape.
- Count 1: 15 years
- Count 2: 15 years
- Counts 3 & 4 (combined): 15 years

This totalled 45 years, with 10 years suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court emphasised that the home must be a sanctuary, not a place of danger, and warned that when a parent becomes the predator, the law will intervene with maximum force.
