The Hwange Regional Court has sentenced a 52‑year‑old man to 20 years in prison for raping his eight‑year‑old step‑granddaughter in Siabuwa.
The court heard that on 11 January, the victim was guarding crops in a family field when the offender followed her to a nearby stream. He dragged her into a bushy area, raped her and threatened her with violence if she told anyone.
The matter came to light when the child bravely disclosed the ordeal to her grandmother, who reported the case to police, leading to the offender's arrest.
The court said the sentence reflects the seriousness of crimes against children and its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society from abuse within their own homes.
