Two men, Tawanda Ruzvidzo (38) and Edmond Muzuva (32), have appeared in court in Harare facing charges of murder and armed robbery after allegedly killing a National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) driver and dumping his body near Lake Chivero.
The State alleges that the pair targeted unsuspecting motorists and posed as passengers at Whitehouse bus terminus on 12 March, where they boarded a vehicle driven by 41-year-old NPA driver Shingirayi Chikosha, who was later killed during the trip.
Prosecutors say the suspects strangled the driver and dumped his body in a bush near Lake Chivero before stealing his belongings and driving off in his Kia Picanto, which was later abandoned in Chegutu.
The court heard that the accused allegedly used the stolen vehicle to carry out further robberies, targeting passengers travelling between Chinhoyi and Karoi in the early hours of 13 March.
During the alleged spree, the victims were robbed of cash, smartphones and other valuables, and in one incident were forced to undress at knifepoint before the suspects fled.
The total value of stolen cash and goods is estimated at over US$1,690.
The two accused were remanded in custody and the case continues.
