The Zimbabwe Anti‑Corruption Commission (ZACC) has issued a statement distancing itself from a fatal road accident that claimed six lives along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway on 2 April 2026.
In the statement, ZACC expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Commission also raised concern over a circulating video and audio recording alleging that ZACC officers were involved in the incident. According to ZACC, the claims are false.
The viral content suggests that ZACC officers ordered a truck driver to divert into a BP service station, leading to the fatal crash. ZACC has firmly denied the allegations, emphasising that it does not deploy officers at roadblocks anywhere in the country.
The Commission urged the public to verify information through its official Communication and Media Liaison Unit to avoid spreading misinformation.
The incident has highlighted growing concerns over the rapid spread of unverified content on social media, particularly in the aftermath of tragic events.
