Nkayi United says it is making steady progress on its US$1 million investment pledge announced last year, with plans centred on strengthening team operations and developing long-term infrastructure, including a proposed stadium in Nkayi.
Speaking to SkyzMetro FM, club president Dr Brilliant Ncube said part of the investment is currently being used to support team management and player salaries, while funds have also been allocated towards the planned stadium project.
"Part of the investment is being channelled towards team management and player salaries and some funds have been reserved for the proposed stadium project," he said.
Dr Ncube said the club is engaging the Nkayi Rural District Council to explore a public-private partnership model that would enable construction of the facility.
He said the proposed stadium is expected to boost local economic activity by attracting football matches, visiting teams, and supporters to the district.
"The project is expected to stimulate economic activity in Nkayi by attracting matches, visiting teams and supporters," he said.
Dr Ncube added that the initiative would also create opportunities for young people and contribute to broader community development, particularly through sport-driven economic activity.
"The initiative is likely to create opportunities for young people while contributing to broader community and economic development," he said.
