Prominent opposition activist Wilson Runánga has been reported to police in Gutu on allegations of insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a WhatsApp group.

According to a police report reference RRB 6776506 dated March 28, 2026, the complaint was filed by Victor Musarurwa, who is said to be associated with the Central Intelligence Organisation.

Runánga is alleged to have made remarks suggesting that President Mnangagwa is "clinging to power" and that political developments involving the recall of Members of Parliament by Sengezo Tshabangu were contributing to public suffering.

Although he has not yet been formally summoned by police, reports indicate that Runánga went into hiding over the Easter holidays after unidentified individuals allegedly visited his home in Mpandawana looking for him.

The matter has not yet been officially confirmed by police. Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa said he had not yet seen the report when contacted.

The allegations come amid heightened sensitivity around public commentary on political leadership and governance issues in Zimbabwe.
