Zimbabwe national football team have received a significant boost ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup after midfielder Marshall Munetsi was recalled to the squad for the invitational tournament set to be played in the United Kingdom later this month.

Munetsi's return marks his first involvement with the national team in nearly five months, following his controversial omission from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals squad under former head coach Marian Marinica, who has since stepped down from the role.

The midfielder, who currently plays for Paris FC, had been the subject of intense debate among supporters and analysts after his exclusion from the continental tournament, with reports suggesting internal disagreements contributed to his absence.

His reintegration into the squad is being viewed as a major morale boost for the Warriors as they prepare for the Unity Cup, an invitational competition that will provide key international exposure and preparation opportunities.

Also returning to the national setup is Italy-based defender Jordan Zemura, who rejoins the Warriors for the first time since November last year.

Zemura's absence had also attracted attention, with reports indicating he previously declined national team call-ups in solidarity with Munetsi during the period of uncertainty within the squad.

The return of both players is expected to strengthen Zimbabwe's midfield and defensive options, offering renewed depth and experience ahead of the UK-based tournament.

The Unity Cup will serve as an important platform for the Warriors to rebuild momentum and cohesion as they continue their international campaign under new leadership following recent technical changes.
