Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged a total of US$5 million towards the Zion Christian Church’s humanitarian and community development programmes following a visit to Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi at his rural home in Defe, Gokwe.

Chivayo and his wife toured several church‑run initiatives supporting orphans, vulnerable children and struggling families across Zimbabwe. He said he was deeply moved by the scale and impact of the church’s charity work, noting that many children had been placed in safe homes while vulnerable families continued to receive consistent support.

Following the visit, Chivayo announced that he would release the remaining US$1 million from an earlier US$2 million pledge, while increasing his total commitment to US$5 million to further strengthen the church’s social welfare programmes.

As part of the expanded support package, Chivayo also revealed plans to purchase a 2026 Rolls‑Royce Cullinan for Bishop Mutendi, despite the bishop reportedly suggesting that the funds be directed towards church operations instead. The luxury vehicle is scheduled for production in August 2026.

In addition, 77 church leaders are set to receive Toyota Hilux 2.8 Single Cab vehicles valued at about US$44,000 each. A further five vehicles will be allocated to the church’s media department, bringing the total number of vehicles donated to 82. Chivayo said all vehicles are expected to be delivered before the end of the month.

He praised Bishop Mutendi for his leadership, saying he had learned that true wealth is measured by the number of lives one uplifts through generosity and service. Chivayo extended his best wishes to the church leader and expressed hope for continued growth in ZCC’s humanitarian mission.
