Girl, 11, gives birth

Authorities are investigating a serious child protection case in Bulawayo's Entumbane suburb involving an 11-year-old girl who has since received medical care at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while child protection structures, including the Victim Friendly Unit, are expected to handle the matter in line with procedures designed to safeguard minors and support survivors.

Local community members have raised concern over how the case has been handled, while officials have reiterated that all reports involving child abuse are treated as criminal matters requiring thorough investigation and protection of the victim.

Mpilo Central Hospital said it is looking into the matter, while police have urged the public to allow investigations to proceed.

Zimbabwe has in recent years strengthened efforts to combat child abuse and teenage pregnancy through specialised victim support systems, counselling services, and law enforcement interventions.
