Retired Major General Everisto Dzihwema, a former senior military officer and seasoned civil servant, has died while undergoing treatment in India.

Dzihwema served Zimbabwe with distinction in both the security sector and public administration, holding several senior leadership positions over the course of a career that spanned decades.

Following his military service, he transitioned into government, where he served as Chief Director in the Ministry of Youth before later taking up the same position in the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle.

He also served as a member of the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Board, where he contributed to programmes aimed at advancing the welfare of liberation war veterans.

Widely regarded as a committed public servant, Dzihwema was among a generation of senior military officers who successfully transitioned into civilian leadership, bringing their experience to government administration and policy implementation.

Throughout his career, he played a role in the development and implementation of programmes in the youth and veterans' sectors, earning respect from colleagues for his dedication to public service.

His death marks the loss of a senior figure who served Zimbabwe in both military and civilian capacities.
