Bosso centenary golf tournament tees off

Highlanders' centenary celebrations will gather momentum tomorrow when the Bulawayo giants host a high-profile corporate golf tournament at the Bulawayo Country Club.
Bosso, the oldest club in Zimbabwe's elite football league, is celebrating 100 years of existence, with a series of activities planned to mark the milestone.
The club has held several low-key events since last year, but the celebrations are now set to enter a more prominent phase, with the golf tournament expected to be followed by an exhibition at the Art Gallery, a music concert and the Highlanders Sports Association Gala.
Highlanders 100 Years Celebrations committee members, led by Roger Muhlwa, visited the Bulawayo Country Club yesterday to assess preparations for tomorrow's tournament.
Muhlwa said golfers from outside Zimbabwe were expected to take part in the event.
"We have golfers flying from as far as South Africa who are coming to celebrate Bosso's achievement. All is being put in place for a good event in which members of the general public have also been invited to come and watch their colleagues," he said.
Finance sub-committee member Morris Brown Mpala and organising management committee vice-chairman Nicholas Nyathi said preparations were progressing well and expressed confidence that the tournament would be a success.
Celebrations project manager Skha Moyo was also part of the delegation that visited the golf club.
Proceeds from the tournament will be channelled towards supporting Highlanders legends and the club's junior development programmes.
Muhlwa was accompanied during the visit by two former Highlanders servants, Josiah Nxumalo and Lawrence Phiri.
Nxumalo was a striker during Highlanders' 1970s campaign before retiring after the 1981 season, while Phiri retired in the same year before going into coaching and later managing the club during an eight-year spell.
Muhlwa said the golf tournament was just one of several events lined up to celebrate the club's historic milestone.
"We have many events lined up for the Highlanders Centenary Celebrations which include this Golf tournament," he said.
