Zanu PF has asked the Manicaland Provincial Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to source 50 school buses to transport members of the Johanne Masowe Echishanu church to and from a church programme in Harare.

The programme is scheduled to run from August 13 to 16, 2026, at Gwanzura Grounds.

In a letter to the provincial education authorities, Zanu PF requested the buses to ferry church members from Manicaland to the event and back.

The letter also states that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had been invited to attend the programme as the guest of honour.

The request has raised questions about the proposed use of school buses for transporting people to a religious gathering, particularly as the vehicles are public education assets intended primarily to support the transport needs of learners and schools.

The letter did not indicate whether the buses would be hired commercially or whether any payment would be made for their use.

The church programme is expected to attract large numbers of congregants from across the country, with the involvement of the President adding prominence to the gathering.

The request comes as Government continues to emphasise the importance of protecting public resources and ensuring that State assets are used for authorised purposes.
