Hichilema maintains lead after 27 constituencies

President Hakainde Hichilema has maintained his lead over NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile after the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) announced results from 27 of the country's 226 constituencies.
Hichilema has so far secured 243,509 votes, while Mundubile has polled 161,883, giving the incumbent a lead of 81,626 votes.
The results reflect contrasting performances across the provinces, with Mundubile recording strong results in parts of Eastern, Copperbelt and Luapula, while Hichilema has built substantial margins in several constituencies in Southern, Central and Lusaka.
Among the strongest performances for Hichilema were Monze East, where he received 22,523 votes against Mundubile's 429, and Kalomo South, where he polled 23,802 votes compared with Mundubile's 83.
Hichilema also secured a sizeable victory in Mumbwa Central, receiving 18,225 votes against Mundubile's 1,923.
Mundubile, however, recorded notable victories in several constituencies.
In Kantanshi, he polled 12,547 votes against Hichilema's 6,945, while in Mwansabombwe, Mundubile secured 11,812 votes compared with Hichilema's 4,456.
The ECZ is expected to issue its second results update at 21:00 hours, with additional constituencies expected to be added to the national tally.
The presidential race remains ongoing, with results from 199 constituencies still outstanding.
The figures remain provisional as the ECZ continues receiving, verifying and announcing results from across the country.
