Namibia President to open Zimbabwe Agricultural Show

Namibian President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will be the guest of honour at the official opening of the 116th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) on Friday, accompanied by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka announced the development during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday.
"The President of the Republic of Namibia Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has graciously agreed to be the guest of honour at the official opening of the 116th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show on Friday," said Masuka.
About 640 exhibitors are participating in this year's show, representing a 4.4 percent increase from last year.
All exhibition halls have reportedly been fully subscribed, reflecting strong interest from businesses and other players across the agricultural value chain.
The show is being held under the theme "Powering Growth: Where Agriculture, Technology and Commerce Converge", highlighting the growing intersection between agricultural production, technology and commercial development.
The participation of the Namibian President is expected to further strengthen relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia, while providing an opportunity for the two countries to showcase opportunities for cooperation in agriculture and related sectors.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has approved Zimbabwe's participation in the Fourth Voluntary National Review (VNR) of the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The review will be presented at the 2027 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda said the decision fulfilled Zimbabwe's international multilateral obligations.
"The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development comprises 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is the global blueprint for eradicating poverty, protecting the planet and promoting inclusive and sustainable prosperity by 2030," Soda said.
The VNR process is intended to assess the country's progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, identify challenges and emerging priorities, share lessons and strengthen policy implementation.
Soda said the reviews were designed to be regular and inclusive, involving different sectors of society in assessing progress towards the 2030 targets.
He called on citizens and stakeholders to participate actively in the process under the Government's Whole-of-Society Approach.
He said the VNR would serve as Zimbabwe's principal national reporting mechanism on implementation of the 2030 Agenda, making broad participation important as the country prepares its 2027 submission.
