Mass exodus hits FC Wangu Mazodze

Financially troubled FC Wangu Mazodze has been hit by a mass exodus, with the coach, team manager, treasurer general and spokesperson resigning within 48 hours.

Masvingo Mirror reported that it had obtained copies of the resignation letters from coach Martin Nyanzira, team manager Emion Emara Maganga, treasurer general Aleck Tabe and spokesperson Courage Kandira.

Club chairperson Knowledge Mabvuure confirmed the departures of Tabe and Kandira, while saying Nyanzira remained part of the club.

Mabvuure said Maganga was an employee of the Mazodze Family Trust who had been seconded to the football club.

He added that the club was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting to address the situation.

The resignations come just days before FC Wangu Mazodze's derby against Masvingo United on Sunday.

Masvingo United experienced a similar crisis during the first half of the season following an announcement by President Emmerson Mnangagwa of a donation to the club that, according to the report, is yet to be fulfilled.

Sources cited by Masvingo Mirror said FC Wangu Mazodze was facing serious financial difficulties following the reported departure of club owner Richard Mazodze from his own club.

There has also reportedly been growing discontent among players and coaches over the club's financial situation.

The situation was reportedly aggravated after Mazodze engaged five musicians — Dorcas Moyo, Allan Chimbetu, Timothy Gokova, Juntal and Tongai Moyo Junior — to perform at the club's annual general meeting and the unveiling of his late mother's tombstone.

The expenditure reportedly came at a time when players and coaches were owed US$4 320.

The latest resignations leave the club facing uncertainty ahead of the weekend derby, with its leadership expected to use the emergency meeting to address the growing concerns.
