HARARE - Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) has taken its environmental awareness campaign to Kuwadzana, where members conducted a community clean-up exercise in support of national efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment.
The exercise brought together CAES leaders and members who cleaned public spaces and encouraged residents to take responsibility for maintaining a clean environment.
Speaking during the campaign, CAES chairman Ellison Samuriwo Muchenje said environmental cleanliness should be embraced as a shared responsibility by all citizens.
"President Mnangagwa has given us a clear call to action, and as responsible citizens, we must support his vision by keeping our communities clean. A clean environment is essential for good health, dignity and national development," said Muchenje.
"We cannot talk about building our country while neglecting the places where we live. The responsibility starts with each one of us, and we must make cleanliness a culture, not something we do only when there is a national clean-up exercise."
CAES Harare chairperson Alice Musarurwa, popularly known as Amai Harare, welcomed the organisation's leadership and members to Kuwadzana and said community participation was essential for maintaining a healthy environment.
"We are happy to host our national leadership here in Kuwadzana for this important exercise. It shows that we are committed to working with our communities and supporting the President's call for a clean and healthy Zimbabwe," she said.
"We want residents to understand that keeping our surroundings clean begins at household and community level. We must all take responsibility for the environment we live in."
The Kuwadzana campaign forms part of CAES programmes aimed at encouraging community participation, environmental responsibility and support for development initiatives.
Participants said clean neighbourhoods contribute to improved public health, safer surroundings and stronger community pride.
