Wrong Makoni chief installed by Mutasa

There are reports that the wrong chief has been instated in Makoni in Manicaland following influence from a Zanu-PF minister.

Sources familiar with the situation claim that Zanu-PF minister, Didymas Mutasa told Donny Kamba who supposed to be the new chief that his family does not deserve the chieftaincy because they sold out to the whites over 200years ago.

Another source, Muzvare Betty Makoni, told Bulawayo24 that the "right person who was supposed to be Chief is Donny Kamba and there was protest against Minister Mutasa interference."

 "Villagers are in shock after the politician pushed the new Makoni whose family was banned from ruling 200 years ago."

It appears that the families may end up defying the politician and Muzvare Betty Makoni said "the right family will proceed and instal the right Chief ..the family chose Donny Kamba."

"There will be one politically appointed and another one traditionally appointed."

Muzvare Betty Makoni took to Facebook to vent her anger saying:

"Just been informed by elders in my Makoni tribe that instead of Nyakurukwa Mambo being installed one big politician in the family imposed someone from Zendera family ...the power and royalty is rotated since 400 years ago when our ancestors settled in Zimbabwe. Traditional rules have been broken because of politics. Once leaders don't do it right it will be wrong. No wonder President Mugabe of Zimbabwe is wise never to mix politics and family. He respects elders in his village. News reached me that a powerful politician in our family has used his muscle to usurp power. Mmmm too bad Baba hey. Our spirits will haunt you forever. Do it right"

When Makoni elders where contacted, they refused to comment saying: "hatitaure nemapepa (we don't talk to the newspapers)"
