FALLING in love with his 15-year-old niece and infecting her with HIV backfired on a Marange man after his in-laws felt betrayed and dragged him to court last week.
The accused, India Masvaure (30), a villager from Masvaure Village under Chief Marange, appeared before Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura and pleaded guilty to the charges he was facing.
The court heard that sometime in November last year, the accused fell in love with the juvenile (daughter to his wife's sister) in the guise of wanting to marry her in the long run.
The two would then sleep together on various occasions until the complainant started to suspect that she was pregnant.
"Because she wanted to get married to Masvaure, the complainant told him that she was pregnant and wanted to elope to him.
Masvaure did not object and the complainant immediately moved in with her aunt's husband," the court heard.
The complainant's move, however, resulted in mayhem for Masvaure because his secret came out.
The complainant's parents and other relatives tried to take her away from her "husband" twice, but in vain because she would sneak back to him.
In her bid for justice, the complainant's mother forcibly took her daughter to Marange Police Station and filed a report, leading to Masvaure's arrest.
Masvaure is set to re-appear in court on January 22.
Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
