An HIV-positive self-proclaimed prophet-cum-spirit medium who promised to deliver a female client from a "snake spiritual husband" but raped her, was yesterday slapped with 18 years in prison.
Chrispen Kasina (28) of Chitungwiza broke down in court after he was convicted of aggravated indecent assault and rape charges.
He still maintained his innocence claiming that the complainant (28), a student nurse was simply jealousy him.
"The complainant is lying, I think she wants me to be her husband since she had problems to have a man in her life," he claimed.
The court heard that the woman's friend introduced her to Kasina on November 28 seeking help for personal problems.
Kasina met the woman at her friend's house and gave her a blue cloth to wrap her head and some snuff.
After sniffing the snuff, she started feeling dizzy while Kasina claimed that she was being possessed by "marine spirits" and had a "spiritual husband''.
Kasina later visited the woman at her lodgings to perform some "cleansing" by asking her to collect soil from crossroads and buy a candle. When the woman went to collect the sand, she was surprised to see Kasina already at her house and they went inside.
Kasina prayed for the woman then a snake appeared on her legs. She stormed out of the house together with her landlady, but was instructed to come back ordering her to remove her pant and skirt and she complied.
He asked her to tie a knot with her pant to break the "bond" between her and her snake spiritual husband. Kasina asked the woman to lie on the bed semi-undressed claiming that he wanted to check if the snake did not leave poison inside her.
In her evidence, the woman said: "He placed both my legs on his shoulders, inserting his fingers into my private parts, fondling and asking me to repeat his prayers. He even told me to look for a stranger to engage in sex with me."
However, Kasina told her not to worry since he was a stranger to her and he started fondling her and raped her.
The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest. Kasina denied the charges before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Ms Estere Chivasa but was convicted after a marathon trial.
Ms Chivasa handed him 20 years in prison but set aside two years.
Mr Tendai Mukariri prosecuted.
