Southern Stars Foundation Statement on the Decision by the MDC-T Run City Council to Bestow Freedom of the City Award to Morgan Tsvangirai
The Southern Stars Foundation learnt with great shock and dismay the reports that the Bulawayo city Council has taken a stand to bestow the Freedom of the City of Bulawayo to Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
The Foundation views this move as a calculated ploy by the MDC-T councillors to fatten the CV of their President through pomp and fanfare ahead of the General elections in a bid to solicit the Matabeleland Vote. Much to our chagrin, this cheap politicking stunt is done at the expense of the revenue collected from us the people of this region.
At this point the Foundation questions any positive contribution that the City Council and the Prime Minister have done to this City. The only Legacy of the City Fathers is the "Big Flush" phenomenon. The legacy of the Prime Minister is impregnating Loretta Nyathi, His legacy is the closure of Security Mills, His legacy is fuelling factional politics and importing violence to Babourfields Stadium, His legacy is calling Ndebeles termites in His At The Deep End Autobiography. This is the man the City Fathers want bestowed the Freedom of the City of Bulawayo.
The Foundation, in light of the above, is appalled that the City Fathers in their wisdom, lack of it or both decided to get instructions from its Political party leadership to refuse the Late Vice President of the Republic John Landa Nkomo the Award and instead give it to and individual of questionable repute and bogus standards.
The Southern Stars Foundation therefore would like to direct the message straight to the City Fathers in no uncertain terms that they should reconsider their ill timed insulting decision failure to which the Foundation and all other peace loving individuals and institutions of this Southern Region will engage in an offensive gear and mobilise citizens of Matabeleland to unanimously reject this Council and the Political Party it represents before and during the elections.
As the people of this region we have swallowed too much of the insults from the Bulawayo City Council and the Prime Minister and we are not willing any more to tolerate this continued onslaught.
