A Cannabis farmer Freddy Mpofu was convicted yesterday by Plumtree magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware.
Mpofu of Siringavale farm was sentenced to two year in jail by Nembaware.
The magistrate conditionally suspended one year on condition of good behaviour.
Mpofu pleaded guilty to the charge saying he wanted to take care of his family.
"Your worship l admit to the charges, l was doing so because l was pushed by poverty since l am not employed so this was done in a bid to look after the family," lamented Mpofu.
The court heard that on January 17, detectives received a tip-off to the effect that Mpofu was cultivating cannabis.
They went with him to his garden where he uprooted 26 dagga plants.
They took him to his house where seven sachets of dagga were found.
Selestine Madziwa prosecuted.
