Fake US$20 note lands Plumtree beer lovers in jail

PLUMTREE - Two Plumtree men have been arrested after they allegedly used a counterfeit US$20 note to buy beer at a local night spot on Boxing Day.
Taridzai Oscar Mpofu (25) and Cardwell Chitono (25) appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on Saturday facing fraud charges. They were remanded in custody to 7 January.
According to the State, the pair went to Chicken King Night Club on 26 December and handed bar attendant Angella Sola a fake US$20 note, bearing serial number 61907957H, to purchase alcohol.
Sola reportedly served them three Savanna bottles and two Chiller Punch beers. Moments after the men walked away from the counter, she noticed the note was counterfeit.
She alerted management, who immediately filed a police report, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
