MDC-T bent on turning Bulawayo into Sodom and Gomorrah

IT seems MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo are bent on turning our beautiful city into Sodom and Gomorrah.

They are working day in and day out to ensure that moral decadence becomes the trademark of this legendary city.  First they came with a declaration that men should be allowed to marry men and women to marry women. Now they have come with another unbelievable declaration that prostitution, yes prostitution, should be allowed to be done without any hindrance during broad day light.

I have no doubt that very soon they will be calling for the legalisation of drugs in the city. Later on I have no doubt that they will call for legalisation of abortion and most likely later on, with the way they are going, I am convinced that they will call for legalisation of bestiality in which  men or women will be allowed to go for a dog, goat or any animal.

If anyone had doubts about the policy bankruptcy of the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo or if at all anyone thought that the criticism about them was based on sour grapes then the recent pronouncements by the MDC-T MP for Bulawayo East, Thabitha Khumalo, calling for legalisation of prostitution should put everything to rest.

These pronouncements came head over heels of the pronouncements by the MDC-T president Morgan Tsvangirai that men should be allowed to marry men and women be allowed to marry women.

This he did despite his full knowledge that the people of Zimbabwe overwhelmingly rejected such a practice during the constitution outreach programme and in making such pronouncements he was trying to subvert the will of most Zimbabweans and thus tamper with the outcome of the constitution making process.

It is the expectation of the people of Bulawayo that the MPs from the city would be at the forefront of spearheading development through sustainable programmes that promote social development and economic growth. Unfortunately, four years into office the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo, besides the new motor vehicles they got using the tax-payers money, have nothing to show for their being in office.
Very few of them can come out and prove that they have done any tangible programme that has benefited the city. This is despite the fact that they got tens of thousands of dollars through the Constituency Development Fund which many of them are failing to account for.

The people of Bulawayo are fully aware that a number of these MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo cannot continue to be trusted with public office because they abused the public funds. If it was not for MDC-T Minister of Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs, Eric Matinenga and what he calls sampling audit on the use of the CDF funds to protect his party members then the majority of these MPs will be facing serious problems.

And they should be warned that they should not think they have escaped the hook because when need arises there could be a push for a proper audit in the interest of transparency. So any of those who know that they did some financial engineering with public funds should be worried to want to seek another term.

The crop of the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo has shown that they are not only clueless about how to drive the region forward  but also that they are a useless bunch which is just wasting the people's time by claiming to be their representatives.

It is strange that in a city bedevilled by all sorts of problems, the best that the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo, through Thabitha Khumalo, have identified is the legalisation of the practice of prostitution in broad day light as one of the key solutions to the city's problems. Her flimsy argument that the country should legalise prostitution is based on weird thinking that it is as old as humanity itself.

How many things are as old as humanity that society has refused to legalise? Theft is as old as humanity, so can we then legalise it on the strength of Thabitha Khumalo's argument about legalising all bad things that are as old as humanity? If Thabitha Khumalo is so close to so many prostitutes, more than 300 as she claims, then why not try to use her closeness to them to identify what pushes them into the street and then use her leverage as an MP to push for policies that will promote establishment of solid family units and not immoral activities?

I am sure that the troop of 300 prostitutes that Thabitha Khumalo is working with will tell her that they are in the streets because of economic conditions and that if they could get jobs in factories or anywhere else they will not be in the streets. But unfortunately for Thabitha Khumalo, typical of the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo, the only solution that they can think of is that which will destroy the social fibre of our society and turn us into the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah.

I have no doubt that the lobby by the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo will soon get to a call for legalisation of abortion on the strength that the woman has a choice on what to do with what happens in her body.
I also have no doubt that soon they will be calling for legalisation of drugs arguing that it is a person's individual choice to intoxicate themselves and therefore the State should not interfere with people's choices. By the same extension as is already the case with some Congressman in America who is calling for legalisation of bestiality, the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo could move towards that direction, and dear citizens of Bulawayo, what kind of society will that be, and why should we allow people to abuse our votes by bringing into the city all things that promote moral decadence?

The MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo have failed to come up with a development agenda that will ensure secure and sustained provision of safe and clean water for the city. They have also failed to provide a development framework to cover, among other things, the resuscitation of industries in the city, the equipping of schools' science laboratories  and the promotion of science subjects so that our schools feed into our local science universities.

The MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo seem to be clueless on how to lobby for affirmative action for our young people to get places in polytechnical colleges, teachers' colleges and nursing colleges so that they become professional teachers and professional nurses and not professional prostitutes.

MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo have also failed to provide sound lobby for the promotion of other indigenous languages besides Shona and Ndebele to be fully recognised despite the fact that Bulawayo is home of these languages and cultures.

We have heard nothing by the MDC-T MPs lobbying for full resuscitation of the Bulawayo Power Station which when operating to capacity can power the whole of Bulawayo and most of Matabeleland South province. Simply put, these MDC-T MPs have no clue on how to proceed with critical areas required for the development of the city and all they could come up with is a lobby for the legalisation of the practice of prostitution in broad day light.

The agenda of destroying our city by the MDC-T MPs can be stopped and the solution lies in the hands of the people of Bulawayo. It is through the vote that these incompetent, bankrupt, retrogressive and dangerous individuals have claim to the leadership of the city. Equally it is through your vote that you can liberate Bulawayo from being turned into a Sodom and Gomorrah by the MDC-T MPs in Bulawayo.  It is our duty to protect the Jewel that iNkosi uLobengula left us.
