The Truth: Only Christians in Politics Can Improve Society

06 May 2016 at 07:49hrs | Views
The world today is characterized by wars, genocides, civil strife, coups, extreme poverty, oppression, climate change effects and all manner and form of crimes. Our beloved country has its own fair share of troubles ranging from corruption, nepotism, tribalism, marginalization, unemployment, dictatorship, economic instability and human rights violations - Do you know why? Proverbs 29 v 2 clearly says "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn".

Who are the righteous that Proverbs referred to if it is not the Christians who have been made righteous by the righteous blood of Jesus Christ? The Bible in Romans 3 v 22, in 1 Corinthians 6 v 11, 1 Corinthians 1 v 30, John 15 v 3 and 2 Corinthians 5 v 21 clearly states that we who were once sinful and unrighteous were made righteous by the salvation in Jesus Christ's Name.

When Proverbs says ‘when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice' it is not only speaking of spiritual authority where we cast out demons, heal the sick, bless and anoint people and slay them in the Spirit. It is also referring to the administrative and political authority. It is Christians who know righteousness who can pass right laws and policies. Honestly it is impossible for us Christians to sit down shun politics and expect that the unrighteous will go in as Councilors, MPs, Senators and Ministers and pass right laws – HOW can they surely do that when righteousness is not in them? It is like expecting the devil to preach the Gospel of truth and salvation in Jesus name!

Christians in Zimbabwe need to be real to their mandate and begin getting into politics and thus cause the citizens of this country to rejoice through right laws, policies and programmes. Christians need to get into politics and stop the corruption, nepotism, marginalization, tribalism, de-industrialization, unemployment and evil that is rocking our country into pieces.

Whilst I appreciate that the main duty of Christians is to preach the Good News of Salvation, bring people to know Christ and live a Holy life – surely our failure as Christians to adopt a holistic Gospel (one which includes both preaching the Word and making just laws) has donated many souls to hell through suicides, drug and substance abuse, murder, prostitution, cult, abortion and all manner of sinful living. The failed political administration of the unrighteous has caused many citizens to be dejected, stressed and confused and eventually resorting to sinful living to alleviate their poverty and suffering.

When Colossians 3 v 23 says "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;" it does not only refer to spiritual matters but also to political matters. Just imagine our country with Councilors, MPs, Senators and Ministers making laws, allocating resources and treating people as they were doing it unto the Lord – do you think this evil and personal enrichment will be there?
