The picture collage is an exposition of the debilitating conditions characterising some hostels in Mbare-one of the oldest and busiest suburb in Zimbabwe.
The eye sore structures are homage to thousands of citizens who are necessitous.Of particular concern to any on looker is the reaction that the government might take in the wake of any disease's outbreak.
Water is already in short supply and some residents have to fetch the precious liquid from other blocks within their immediate vicinity. The sewerage system is obsolete and it is not in proportion with the ever growing population in the flats. The population boom has been necessitated by early childhood marriages since many parents are incapacitated to cater for the welfare of their children due to the harsh economic situation this country is facing.
Thus, the children mainly the girl child resort to marriage in a bid to revive their dear lives. The hostels are powerhouses of social ills.
For instance, prostitution and drug dealings are orders of the day.School dropouts are languishing in the hostels and a great number of them is seeking solace in "Bronco"-a cough syrup they overdose to an extent that it becomes a drug.Vending is the prime "profession" for the residents as evidenced by the fact that it has put food on the tables of numerous households....Surely, the situation raises more questions than answers.
What is the Local governance ministry's opinion pertaining the issue at hand?
What is the Ministry of Finance and Economical Development thinking about the plight of the Mbare citizens and other Zimbabweans at large? These are some of the questions that anyone can ask.To be frank enough, this country's future is hanging by a gossamer thread but I am hopeful that divine prevalence will eradicate the horror...........
