Asamoah Gyan has reportedly made the decision to withdraw himself from international football due to the wave of criticism he has received regarding Ghana's failed Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Gyan, on-loan at Al Ain from Sunderland, sent a letter to the Ghanaian Football Association on Friday informing them of his decision to hang up his international boots, claiming the abuse he has received from his compatriots has been "intolerable".

The former Rennes and Udinese striker, who has picked up 59 caps for the Black Stars, has been forced to shoulder a lot of the blame for his country's short-comings at AFCON due to his missed penalty in the 1-0 semi-final defeat to eventual champions Zambia.

The 26-year-old reportedly said he "did not take the decision lightly", but that he would inform the Ghanaian FA when, or if, he ever decides to withdraw his retirement.

Gyan has netted 28 times during his international career, which he began with a goal on his debut as a 17-year-old in 2003.
