CHIREDZI - The biggest and controversial beerhall in the country, will finally open it's doors to revellers tomorrow (Friday 08 2017, after the town council has closed it for almost two years, citing perennial losses. Sex workers of all ages could be seen loitering outside the bar, even though the council has shut down Chigarapasi, citing continuous losses, prompting it to lease the bar to a private player.

The tender was won by the heavily built Five Muchehiwa, popularly known by Chiredzi residents as Big Five. Muchehiwa who is a small scale farmer and runs a chain of bottles and night spots around Chiredzi, was besides himself when reached for comment.

"I know that things are bit tight, and that disposable income is at its lowest, but I hope I am going to revive Chigarapasi to its glory days of yesteryear. I urge residents to support us. Many people have benefitted from this bar and I want to maintain that," said Big Five.

One sex worker who only identified herself as Chihera said she was in cloud nine because of the delevopments. "I am happy that Chigarapasi has finally opened. In recent days, it was so difficult to raise rentals, but I am confident that this would be a thing of the past," said the visibly elated Chihera.

Big Five is going to bring two prominent musicians Progress Chipfumo and Jacob Moyana of the "Munotidako" fame. Chipfumo is expected to woo fans with his lyrical prowess while Munotidako will electrify the atmosphere with his naught lyrics on his new album entitled "Machee Ndeenyu".

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwean town recently set tongues wagging after honouring commercial sex workers who plied their trade in the 1960s and 1970s.

Chiredzi, a small sugar-growing establishment in the Southern Region, recognised the sexual exploits of the women who were the pioneers of prostitution in the area by naming streets after them.

Prominent among these is a sex worker only identified as Molly, who was brutally murdered in Tshovani township in 1966, before Zimbabwe attained its independence.
