JOHANNESBURG - Another local musician is in trouble with the law. Kwaito star Brickz is behind bars.
He's accused of raping a minor earlier this year. A case was opened more than six months later and Brickz was arrested on Friday.
Sipho Ndlovu also known as Brickz has been accused of raping a Joburg teenager.
Ndlovu looked close to tears during his brief court appearance. The alleged incident took place in March, and involves a 16-year-old girl.
In a statement, the SAPS has confirmed a case of rape was opened at the Honeydew Police Station in western Johannesburg on the 17th of October.
He's been in jail since Friday, and the NPA is determined to keep him behind bars
"The only details we can reveal right now as the NPA is that Sipho Charles Ndlovu has appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court facing a charge of rape. Rape is a very serious offence, it falls under Schedule 6, hence we are opposing bail as the State," said NPA spokesperson Phindi Louw.
Brickz will apply for bail next week Tuesday. His lawyers are confident his name will be cleared.
"Like anybody who is in jail cannot be happy about that. I am of the opinion that my client has a very strong case against the State and we will go there and apply for bail," said Ndlovu's legal representative Isaac Mokgobi.
Ndlovu will remain in custody at the Krugersdorp prison until his next court appearance
