LEGENDARY duo Shwi NoMtekhala are asking music lovers for a second chance after resolving their differences.

The pair, known for their evergreen hit Ngafa, reunited as Shwi NoMtekhala on 21 February, performing together for the first time in five years following a bitter split and public disputes.

Praised for opening doors for modern maskandi and breaking boundaries, the duo went separated ways in 2022 after 22 years of making hits, selling records, and winning top awards.

In 2004, their fourth album, Wangisiza Baba, featuring Ngafa, sold over 750 000 physical copies and scooped many awards.

After their split over money, Shwi performed solo as Shwi Mantomazane, while Mtekhala went his own way.

Their split left many fans heartbroken, as they were seen as proof that two top maskandi artists could work together peacefully.

Music lovers pressured them to reunite, and after ironing out their differences, they are back together.

Fans and radio stations have warmly welcomed the reunion.

On Saturday, 21 February, Ukhozi FM celebrated the duo's comeback by giving them a live performance slot on the maskandi show Sgiya Ngengoma.

Shwi, whose real name is Mandlakhe Xaba (52), told Daily Sun it is all water under the bridge, and they are working on a new album to be released before the Easter holidays.

"The Shwi NoMtekhala duo is finally back now, but we will continue with our solo projects, and Shwi NoMtekhala will remain as headquarters. We are asking music lovers to give us a second chance like before, and we will not disappoint them," he said.

"We thank all the fans who understood that we fought, and now we have sorted it all out. We apologise, and we ask for calm and peace after this."

Mtekhala, real name Zwelenduna Magubane, said he is thankful their duo is finally back.

"We appreciate the support we are getting from music lovers and ask for a second chance because we have ironed out our differences and reunited. We ask music lovers to support us as a duo, and we also ask music lovers to support us in our solo projects. We have learned from our mistakes," he said.
