A gang of five men and women from Springs Farm in Umguza ganged up and pounces on a villager in the neighbourhood and assaulted him in a dispute over a piece of land.
Thabiso Ngwenya (19), Nothando Ngwenya (25), Pardon Shoko (28) Simeleni Nyoni (47) and Bishop Ngwenya (54) were not asked to plead to assault charge when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Batanai Tuwe. They were remanded to December 16.
The court was told that the five on September 1 this year were at the Springs Farm where they had a quarrel with Pardon Ndlovu (21) over a piece of land.
They then assaulted him several times on the head using logs and stones. The complainant was taken to hospital for treatment and a report made to the police led to the arrest of the five accused.
