CSO conducts series of sports, art events to encourage citizen participation in elections

Bulawayo based Civic organisation, Habakkuk Trust has conducted a series of sports and arts tournaments to encourage citizen participation in electoral processes.
The event held under the theme, 'We Citizens Act Now', is meant to mobilise communities to register to vote, inspect the voter's roll and exercise peace and tolerance during the elections.
The Trust said they recent held their first tournament at St Peters village, a peri-urban area in Bulawayo's Ward 17 where over 300 spectators graced the occasion which was graced by much celebrated artiste, Madlela S'khobokhobo who thrilled the crowd with his latest hits.
"Upcoming local artists Super Geeks also did performances that appeal to the younger audience. The grand finale of the day was the final soccer match between the former Highlanders Football Stars which included Douglas Mloyi, Siza Khoza, Johannes Ngodzo, Ronald Gidiza Sibanda, Chipo Tsotso and Gift Lunga Junior and the winning local team, Robert Sinyoka FC. Highlanders legends," said the trust.
"Officials from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) who present at the event provided electoral education to the crowd that entailed requirements for both voter registration and voter inspection."
The Trust said the election outreach continues this week as they are in collaboration with Christian Legal Society and Masakhaneni Projects Trust takes the much celebrated former football stars to Kafusi in Matobo Ward 1 and to Dobhi in Umzingwane Ward 9.
"Habakkuk Trust continues to use sports and arts as a tool to mobilise communities to participate in decision making and development processes with special emphasis to the electoral processes currently underway," it said.
