Child dies after being hit by a dump truck in Gweru

A six-year-old child tragically lost his life on Saturday morning after being struck by a refuse collection truck operated by Gweru City Council near Clifton Park suburb.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the fatal incident. "Police in Gweru are investigating a fatal road traffic accident where a six-year-old boy was allegedly hit by a Gweru City Council dump truck and died on the spot. This occurred on May 24 around 11am," he said.
Inspector Mahoko added that the driver, 58-year-old Phillip Makotore, was operating the UD dump truck heading towards Clifton Park high-density suburb at the time of the accident.
"The circumstances around the incident are being thoroughly investigated to gather evidence for possible prosecution on charges of culpable homicide," Insp Mahoko said.
Authorities continue to investigate the tragedy as the community mourns the loss of the young boy.
