Police in Masvingo have warned communities in the province and surrounding areas to exercise caution when travelling to Chipinda and Mutakaya in Zaka after two Riverton Farm dam walls burst on 12 January.
In a notice issued via the ZRP X account, the police said the incident destroyed two key bridges — Chipinda and Mutakaya — which cross the Chiredzi River and link local villages.
"The two bridges, Chipinda and Mutakaya, which cross Chiredzi and connect local villagers, were destroyed. The bridges are not passable either by vehicles or people on foot," the statement read.
The ZRP urged the public to remain alert and use alternative routes until the situation improves.
"The ZRP appeals to the public to be alert and use alternative access routes until the situation normalises. More details will be availed in due course as the police have engaged the Civil Protection Unit," the notice added.
