Scores of farm workers at Lesbury Farm in Rusape, Manicaland Province, have reportedly lost their homes after a man accused of leading a fresh farm invasion allegedly destroyed their houses, claiming ownership of the property.

The workers have identified the alleged invader as a local man known as Samhungu, accusing him of spearheading the latest invasion at the farm.

Lesbury Farm belongs to the Smart family, which was invited back to the property by the government in 2017 after previously leaving the country following an earlier farm takeover.

The family had left for Europe after Bishop Trevor Manhanga and his associates allegedly took over the farm amid violence. President Emmerson Mnangagwa later intervened, paving the way for the family's return.

The latest incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of farm workers and their homes, with affected workers reportedly counting their losses following the destruction of their houses.

In a video circulating about the incident, workers accuse Samhungu of leading the invasion and claim he asserted that he was the new owner of the farm.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and it was not immediately clear whether the matter had been reported to the police or whether Samhungu had responded to the accusations.

Further details regarding the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the alleged invasion were not immediately available.
