Popular Bulawayo stand up comedian and club dee jay, Babongile Sikhonjwa, is reportedly in a critical state following a car accident in the early hours of Monday.
According to Radio Dialogue, Sikhonjwa was in the company of another comedian, Clive Chigubhu, and Leeward Charamba.
The cheerful Sikhonjwa is in Intensive Care Unit at Mpilo Hospital.
The trio, where last spotted at Horizon Pub at Pioneer House in the city centre where South African female dee jay, Zinhle, was performing.
According to a close friend of the two, who spoke on condition of the two, Skhonjwa was driving towards the western suburbs when the accident occurred.
"Skhonjwa was driving along Luveve road in the company of Clive Chigubhu and another person. It looks like he failed to negotiate the curve at the Nguboyenja flyover and he rammed into the concrete at the centre of the road and his car hit one of the street lamps before overturning.
"All passengers were thorn out the car and Skhonjwa was badly injured. I understand Clive has since been treated and discharged. I am not sure of the condition of the other person," said the friend.
Contacted for a comment, Bulawayo Police provincial spokesperson, Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the accident.
"There was an accident today along Luveve road around 03.00 hours involving artists who were coming from a show in the city centre. The driver failed to negotiate the curve resulting in the car overturning," said Inspector Moyo.
According to sources at the hospital, Skhonjwa suffered broken ribs and punctured lungs.
Sikhonjwa and Chigubu are popular figures in the comedy circuit and have shared the stage on several occasions.
