Govt roles out mass immunization

Two ministries are today embarking on a week-long mass immunisation programme countrywide targeting elimination of bilharzia and intestine Worms.
According to the national prevalence survey conducted in 2010, bilharzia is found in 56 districts, while intestinal worms are prevalent in 476 of the country's 63 districts.
Reads part of the notice : "The Ministry of Health And Child Care in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will as from Monday 26th to Saturday 31 October, 2015 undertake the annual National Mass Drug Administration, (MDA), whose objective is to eliminate schistosomiasis (bilharzia) and Intestine Worms, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms in all affected districts of the country.
"To ensure elimination of the scourge of the two neglected tropical diseases, bilharzia is and intestinal worms in our country, the World Health Organisation recommends that at least 80% of the affected children be reached with mass treatment annually for five consecutive years".
The notice said medicines to be used in the exercise are safe for children.
