A WOMAN from Avoca in Filabusi is in trouble after she allegedly dumped her baby boy into the pit latrine on condition that she was not able to sustain her life since she was not employed.
Perceive Musariwa (20) was not asked to plead to the charge of attempted murder when she appeared before Filabusi resident magistrate Mzingaye Moyo on Friday. The magistrate remanded her in custody to a further date to appear before Gwanda Provincial magistrate for trial.
She was advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Smart Tafireyi told the court that on November 24 this year at 9pm Musariwa went to the Washington Co-operative garden, at Sidzibe in Filabusi with her child. She then threw the undressed baby into a pit latrine with the intention to kill him since she cannot fend for him, before she went back home unnoticed.
The child was discovered by other villager who went to the garden the following day and they heard him crying in the pit latrine. With the assistance of the neighbourhood watch committee members, they jointly retrieved the baby who was having human waste all over the body.
Further investigations were made and Musariwa was interrogated as she was the only person in the village who had given birth recently. It was later discovered that she was no longer having the child and she could not explain the child's where about. This led to her arrest.
