A DJ at a bar at Empumalanga in Hwange was seriously assaulted by a reveler after he refused to play the music of Winky D.
The assailant was later arrested following the assault and dragged to court where he was slapped with four months in jail after assaulting.
Bornwell Sibanda (23) pleaded guilty to assault before Hwange magistrate Sheron Rosimani. He was convicted and sentenced him to 7 months in jail. Three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
In mitigation Sibanda said he was upset by the Disk Jockey by not repeating Winky D' song.
The hit track ‘Disappear' by Winky D , the Ninja Presidents 2015 album was proving to be a crowd favourate at the bar and Sibanda wanted it to be
played again and again.
When the DJ wanted to play other tracks, that is when Sibanda lost it and savagely attacked the DJ Moustaffa Mbewe.
Prosecutor Onias Nyathi said on December 20 2015 at 11pm Mbewe (24) was operating a Public Address system and playing music from the PA system at Matake shopping centre in Empumalanga Hwange. Sibanda ordered him to repeat Winky D song but he refused. Sibanda then started assaulting him with fists and bite him on the hand several times.
He was refrained by Thabani Ncube and Peter Mumba before he went out of the bottle store and came back armed with a broken bottle which he used to stab Mbewe who sustained serious cut.
Mbewe was taken to St Patrick's Hospital for treatment and a report made to the police led to Sibanda's arrest.
