Zacc exonerates Zindi

Mutasa South legislator Irene Zindi's re-election bid received a major boost last week after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) cleared her of charges of grabbing a Mutare City Cuncil house.
The local authority had roped in Zacc, accusing the Zanu-PF legislator of fraudulently acquiring a council house during her tenure as caretaker commissioner.
Zindi occupied the house when she was part of a commission running the affairs of Mutare City Council after the disbandment of the MDC-T-controlled council led by the late Misheck Kagurabadza a few years ago, and later acquired it.
In a letter addressed to Zindi's lawyer, Passmore Nyakureba, Zacc commissioner in charge of investigations Goodson Nguni said they had investigated the matter and found that the properly was acquired procedurally.
"Please be advised that according to documentation provided on the matter, council resolved to sell Park House, stand 10401 located in Mutare to Honourable Zindi of which the honourable minister (Ignatious Chombo) paid for the stand,'' Nguni said.
Zindi yesterday accused councillors of pursuing the matter for political expedience.
"As I always say, this was only a political gimmick by some councillors who are so ignorant who wasted their time with issues they knew were above board,'' he said.
"I am just told that there was a plot to arrest me so that I cannot contest in the upcoming elections, but I am happy that Zacc has exonerated me.''
