Residents of Harare are up in arms against the Harare City Council which has failed to provide municipality water for close to two weeks due to shortage of treatment chemicals.

Residents who took to social media took to Facebook to display their anger and displeasure at the way the local authority was treatment although they pay bills every month.

" Kamfinsa haven't had their usual 8 hours of Sunday/ Monday water in 2 weeks. Let alone a full week of water in the last 20 years!!! And what about all the trash that hasn't been collected?"Fumed one Luise Smith.

Another resident Gracious Gari said, "We haven't received water in 2 weeks in Cranborne, what is going on? Do you know the difference between rationing and total cut off supply? Do u ever consider the health implications of your operations?"

In a statement Harare City Council admitted that it was facing challenges in securing chemicals but they will make effort to see to it that residents have enough water.

"Harare City Council has noted with concern reports that there will be no water in the city. Admittedly we having been having challenges in stocking water treatment chemical due to the unavailability of foreign currency. We would like to assure residents that we have enough chemicals to last us until we receive bulk consignments procured in South Africa. Council will continue to treat and supplies albeit in reduced quantities so as to stretch the available resources. We are working with our suppliers to stabilize the situation."

The Council recently said their supplier in Beira was a victim of Cyclone Idai hence the failure to get chemical orders on time.
