Ex-Zipra intelligence officer dies

One of the key figures in Zapu and Zipra's intelligence arm, National Security Organisation, during Zimbabwe's liberation struggle, Zephaniah Nkomo, has died of Covid-19, a colleague has confirmed.
Nkomo was the Director of Mafela Trust, a Zapu history documentation centre.
Nkomo, not related to Joshua Nkomo, worked with Zipra military intelligence supremo Dumiso Dabengwa under the National Security Organisation; played a critical role during the liberation.
In 1982, Nkomo was arrested with other ZPRA leaders like Dabengwa, Masuku accused of trying to assassinate Prime Minister Mugabe. He was tortured spent 4 years at Chikurumbi without trial.
Nkomo is far more decorated than many national heroes buried at the Heroes Acre in Harare.
Nkomo also worked with Zenzele Ndebele, the Director of the Centre for Innovation & Technology, in researching and documenting Zapu, Zipra and other related issues on Zimbabwe's liberation struggle.
