Hungry mine worker steals 5 kg beef

A hungry Fredda Rebecca worker Jonah Mufananyawe (52) was arraigned before a Bindura magistrate Maria Msika for stealing meat on Friday.
Mufananyawe pleaded guilty to the charge saying he wanted to feed his hungry family as poverty was knocking on his door.
"Your worship l admit to this theft charge but l committed the offense out of hunger poverty is knocking at my door and l need to feed my family,please have mercy on me," lamented Mufananyawe.
The magistrate had mercy on him and gave him a warned and cautioned sentence before discharging him.
Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court that on January 20 security guards who were maning the gate conducted a body search on every worker as they were leaving.
The convict was found in possession of a white sack which contained 5kilograms of beef which he had stolen at the mine's canteen.
The beef was valued at $2200 and he was arrested before being surrendered to the police station, the meat was recovered.
